Note Climb
preview video & app overview

Identify the notes shown on the staff to race up the rope!
Customize each game by selecting:

  • The specific notes you want to play with
  • Treble or bass clef
  • Single staff or grand staff

For single staff, players race to identify the note first. For grand staff, each player identifies notes on his/her own staff.

Available for iPhone, iPad, android, and Kindle Fire devices.

"I casually spotted this app on a piano-teaching forum and instantly knew my students would love the little stick guys and the concept of racing against me (or their sibling) up the rope. I played it for the first time last week and it was SO much fun. I have numerous apps and they all have their merit, but this is a breath of fresh air and works for all ages. I then went on to buy stickey keys (which blew me away) and I now plan to buy interval climb too. Very happy with my new teaching tools!"

Frequently Asked Questions

First, decide if you want to play on the grand staff or single staff. Tap the leftmost of the bottom center buttons to switch between single and grand staff.

For the grand staff, each player identifies notes on his/her own staff; whereas, players race to identify the same note on the single staff.

Second, choose which clef and notes you want to play with. Tap the clef mark to toggle between treble and bass; tap a note to select/deselect it.

Third, tap the arrow in the upper right to start the game. For the grand staff game, the player on the left taps the note name button to match the lower staff; the player on the right taps the note name button to match the upper staff. Correct answers move you up the rope, while incorrect answers move you down. The first one to the top wins.

For the single staff game, it is a race to see which player can select the correct note name first.

These alternative ways to play can be good options if a teacher is playing with a student:
1. Head start: Let the student have a head start, so when the teacher starts to play, their climber chases the student's climber up the rope.
2. Take turns: Let the student take the first turn, then alternate so that only one person is selecting a note at a time.
